Ella Murray - A Sixties Girl

Ella likes her clothes to contain her, to fit but not to restrict, as she explains, she wants to be able to sit, lean, lie down, cross her legs and sit on the floor and for her clothes to accommodate all of that

So Ella is drawn to slick lines of the sixties. Spareness and neatness, nothing extraneous. Clean, sharp, confident design.

Ella is smart, in all senses of the word, and describes in her friendship group a turning away from what some might see as a tendency in young people to seek novelty indulge in fast consumption and hanker after physical perfection.

She and her friends buy secondhand and keep their faces real on their social media accounts.

Photographer’s note

I don’t ever airbrush faces, especially not young faces, but by increasing the contrast in the photos I enhanced the glow that is nothing to do with make-up but everything to do with youth and beautiful skin.

The high contrast in the second photo alludes to what we might think of as the Sixties Look.

There is something in black and white that concentrates the gaze and simplfies everything. A bit like sixties style
